Throughout the summer our haumāna had opportunities to develop their Nā Lawena Hoʻokele through 2 collaborative programs: Purple Maiʻa and the University of Alaska-ANSEP (Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program).
Purple Maiʻa and Mālama Honua PCS
Practicing effective Communication and Collaboration, haumāna learned from and worked with a variety of community leaders to address the needs facing our lāhui. Guided by ALOHA, they engaged in opportunities to ʻauamo their kuleana, practicing Civic Responsibility. Working with ʻAnakala Kealiʻi, the haumana planted the next generation of koa trees for our community at Nation of Hawaiʻi.
ANSEP, Ke Kula ʻo Kamakau LPCS, Mālama Honua PCS
Two groups of Kamakau and MHPCS haumāna attended the ANSEP middle school program. Just as mōʻī learned from other global leaders to enhance the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, our haumāna developed their global perspective, and built alliances across the Pacific. For our first group, this was their first time so far away from home. They persevered and took initiative, embracing the challenge of weather, missing ʻohana, and trying new things with bravery and a willingness to learn and grow. Reinforcing their confident cultural identity they participated in new learning, finding similarities and differences in ʻāina and practices between Alaska and Hawaiʻi.
