Mālama Honua haumana and Waimānalo Canoe Club paddlers visited California State University Maritime Academyʻs Training Ship ʻGolden Bearʻ this summer at Aloha Tower. They went on a tour of the ship, led by current CSUM students, one even from Hawaiʻi! They learned about life on board, navigation, the engine room, standing vehicles, and caring for the ship while at sea.
The 500-ft training ship, crewed by students and teachers from Cal Maritime, was in Honolulu during its annual 2 month training cruise, preparing students for professional careers in the maritime industry. Cal Maritime is part of the California State University system, and one of the seven degree-granting maritime academies in the U.S. -- and the only one on the West Coast.
Mahalo to ʻOhana Bozina for setting up and sharing pictures!
