papa eono at KVA

We are Papa ʻEono and our theme of study is waʻa. Our 1st trimester hōʻike theme is O wai la? Who am I? We focused on 4 different waʻa: Hikianalia, Hōkūleʻa, Makaliʻi, and Laʻiʻōpua and how they fit into our moʻokūʻauhau.

Learning about these waʻa are important because when weʻre sailing on the waʻa weʻre being connected to our past, by doing the same thing our ancestors once did. By continuing to learn and teach about the things they did, it helps to keep the legacy of our waʻa moʻokūʻauhau alive.

Na wai ke kupu ʻo ʻoe?

Papa ʻElima ended the 1st trimester by reviewing the Inoa Hawaiʻi of Waimānalo and building pilina as a class! Na wai ke kupu ʻo ʻoe? Whose sprout are you? Our huakaʻi to Makapuʻu and Kaiona helped us remember that we do not just represent the people we come from, but the places as well.
