Aloha Kākou, What an exciting month for our charter school! The rain held as we welcomed families and community supporters to our first ʻohana evening on February 4th at the Waimānalo Hālau. Mahalo to Waimānalo Hawaiian Homes Association for hosting us and Waimānalo Queen Liliuokalani Childrens Center for sponsoring the ono dinner. It was an inspirational evening as we listened to Nainoa and Robert share the history, mission, and vision behind Mālama Honua- the voyage, the learning center, and the K-2 charter school. We got to talk story with so many community members who bring a wealth of knowledge and passion for Waimānalo and our children. Our search for K-2 kumu continues, although we have begun to build our founding faculty. The kumu have amazing gifts and we feel honored that so many talented individuals are passionate about Mālama Honua. There were kumu that may not join us this year as a K-2 school, but we look forward to capitalizing on their gifts in future years. As we move closer to the first day of school and the launch of the voyage we really need your kokua. Please spread the word about Mālama Honua. We know that our success is contingent upon the community coming together to build the charter school. We invite you to be a part of Mālama Honua- as a parent, as kupuna, as a volunteer, as a leader in the community. We look forward to connecting with you!
Mālama Pono,
